Every once in a while I go through an Elliott Smith phase, where his music is basically all I will listen to for a few days. If you don’t know him, he was virtually unknown in the mainstream until his music provided a good chunk of the soundtrack for Good Will Hunting, so if you have seen the movie, you have heard his stuff. He died in 2003 with what has been mostly accepted as two self-inflicted stab wounds to the chest. The coroner’s report was apparently inconclusive as to whether his death was a suicide, but it also has never prompted a homicide investigation, so let’s just leave it at that.
His music is absolutely beautiful in that soul-crushing ijustwannasitaroundandcry kind of way. So basically, if you are not in a good point in your life maybe this is not the time to get into it. However, if you are doing alright, check it out. I am a huge fan.
This is one of my favorites.
(just heart wrenching – “I’m never gonna know you now, but I’m gonna love you anyhow”? you’re killing me Smith!)
